What I have learnt from this task

From this task, I have learned how to use photoshop effectively and how to fix many mistakes. It has been my first ever time using photoshop and I think that I have used it effectively in order to create a magazine front cover and contents page. 

Another thing that I have learned to do is make executive decisions in the form of what images I like and dislike enough to use in my magazine. The decisions I made had to be rational and I had to have reasons for why I was doing the things that I was doing. 

I also learned that I had to think things through properly because if something didn't work effectively then I had to go back a lot and change a lot of my content. In addition, I learned that in order for something to work correctly you have to take the correct steps before hand in order for it to be completed.

I also learned that the magic wand tool on Photoshop doesn't necessarily work properly unless there is a definitive contrast in colours of the actors skin tone and clothes against the background of the shot, i.e a school hall or the exterior of a building. 

The background colour of My Magazine

The background colour of my magazine is a blue/turquoise colour. The reason that I chose this colour is because it is a calming colour and I wanted to portray the school as a calm environment to learn in. I thought that the contrast in colours between the actor, text and background worked well due to the similarity in colour scheme.

The text that I have used on my contents page

This is a screenshot of the text that I used in my contents page. It was on its own layer and I used the same effects in both pieces of text in order to make them look the same and uniform to the page.

The title for my contents page

 This is the contents page title for my magazine. i have bevel and embossed my title to make it stand out more from my background.

The barcode for my front cover

This is a screenshot of the barcode that I used. The barcode was inserted and placed and then it didn't need any effects doing to it. I left the barcode how it was because the image alone was effective enough.

The PE image from my contents page

 I edited this image to be embossed with a drop shadow in order to give it a better effect and quality to the image to page contrast; it makes the image stand out from the background colour.

In this image, I used contouring tools in order to create a 3D effect. This gives my magazine more of a professional look. I also rotated the image in order to give the page more of an interesting look.

This screenshot shows the layers i have used in my Front Cover of my magazine. I chose to use the layers in this order to make the image of my actor come infront of all of my heading and image of the wedding singer logo; whilst at the same time being behind the text about what is inside the magazine.















This image is of the effects that I chose for my masthead. I wanted it to stand out and look more professional that the normal original text that was used.

Images that I will be using on my contents page

The images that I will be using are two images. One will be of a PE lesson outdoors and one will be of two happy 6th formers smiling happily. The characters in the PE image will be year 8 students partaking in a football game. The other image will be taken in a classroom within a school environment.

This image will be the image that i use on my front cover of my magazine. I have mistakenly deleted the image prior to editing from my camera and desktop. I used the eraser tool to erase the background of the image; I had to use the eraser tool due to the fact that the magic wand tool didn't allow for the lack of contrasting colours from the background and my actor. 

This image will be a feature in my front cover to give an overview of the contents and one of the leading stories.
